RogueSquid says: "Did you know that beavers were basically all dead & gone by the late 1700’s in North America? During the 1700’s beavers became sort of a high fashion statement and were killed off for their pelts (a lot for hats!). There became a new turn for profit through nature, by exploiting it quicker than it could rebuild itself. But laws were enacted to help save the beaver population before it was gone forever.
Luckily, beavers made a come back but for a while they were a rare animal. Beavers are not just a cute fuzzy critter that you find in cartoons or your average children book, but a force in nature that keeps maintaining wetlands naturally.
Rocky Mountain Beavers had thicker fur and became so valuable at one point that they were a form of currency in the Rocky Mountains!
